Unfortunately, because of a trying college course load for Andi, she has given me notice that she has to quit. She's been great on how she let me know, giving me ample time to find a replacement. So there' no hard feelings, I still love her lots, & wish her the best.
But that leaves me looking for another intern. While I have management & hiring experience in a previous life (before I ever became Joyee), I was given specific quidelines based on what the employer wanted. I'm the employer now & I find that to be a whole other barell of monkeys. I find myself at a loss of what to ask.
So, I'm turning to my fans & making it a contest. What would you ask? What do you think is important for me to know about possible candidates? What might I miss to think of?
Please submit your entrey to joyeeflynn@hotmail.com. One question per entry, multiple entries allowed. Winners will be selected & announced Friday Feb 24th & since Gabrielle Evan's will be visiting me then, I will be making her help me pick. (Not that she knows that yet, lol).
1st place: $25 Bookstrand bucks
2nd place: A signed paperback book (the winner to choose one from the list of what I have on my shelf in my office)
3rd place: A ebookcopy of Damian (or another of my books if the winner has already preordered it.
Thanks so much & I hope everyone has some fun with the questions!!

ReplyDeletegreat contest!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived anywhere close by I would apply for the job. But the military moves us around to much and never know where we are going to be. Good luck finding an intern.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'd want to know if the could spell, punctuate, and if they had a sense of humor you gotta have that for any job. Love your books by the way, I'm completely hooked!
ReplyDeleteI would ask if they like dealing with people, and have a good sense of humour, and can be entertaining in their interactions. They would also need to be literate. A good work ethic is also necessary.
ReplyDeleteHmm, since I don't really know what your intern does, I can't really come up with good questions. What do you need the intern to do? What hours do you need him/her? Is the time flexible? You probably know best what skills, abilities, etc, you need, so after you ask about those, ask some personal questions. This is someone you want to feel comfortable working with, so it would probably help if you have some things in common. Favorite music, TV, movies, games. What do you do in spare time? And ask WHY they like it. And go ahead and ask some off the wall questions - If you were an animal, what would you be and why? How many toes does a rebus have? Make up things that don't HAVE answers, just to see how they think.
ReplyDeleteWish it wasn't a local job too. I'm constantly finding errors in typing or sentence structure in books (I admit I kind of suck at punctuation sometimes) and would love to have the chance at a job (or hell, for some authors, volunteer) to read stuff. It'd be a dream job! Reading books by authors I like and helping them along the way? So perfect...
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your intern search!!
